Iran, Iraq review regional developments
At the meeting, the two sides studied the latest developments in both countries.
The new Iranian ambassador called the two sides' relations as deep-rooted and comprehensive.
Highlighting the two countries' historical and cultural commonalties, Qomi called for enhancement of diplomatic relations between the two countries in line with the firm determination both states to expand all-out cooperation.
He also conveyed the message of the Iranian president in which he declared Iran's readiness to help resolve the problems facing the new Iraqi government. He also said the Islamic Republic of Iran is to mobilized all facilities for reconstruction of Iraq.
No one can leave negative effects on the two sides' relations, underlined the Iranian ambassador.
"We hope the new Iraqi government will play a much more active role in regional and international developments," he said. The Iraqi foreign minister, for his part, expressed satisfaction with the appointment of Kazemi Qomi as the new Iranian ambassador to Baghdad and said "We hope the new ambassador will do his best to help upgrade the level of mutual ties."
Appointing a new ambassador under the current conditions of the region is a good indication of Iran's determination to expand mutual ties, he said.
Iraq is now going through a very difficult stage and "we hope with collective efforts of neighboring countries, positive steps will be taken to enable Iraq to play a much more active role in the region," he said.
The Iranian ambassador called for expansion of mutual cooperation at regional and international level which was welcomed by the Iraqi foreign minister.
The new Iranian ambassador to Baghdad is to submit his credentials to Iraqi president early next week.
